The demographics work in his favor, and Eldon takes full advantage. Short in stature and long on ladies-man aspirations, he’s a resident in a retirement community where women outnumber men about 7 to 1.
Many of the single men I’ve observed in this setting prefer to keep to themselves. Lots of lonely women wish this were not so. They aren’t necessarily craving romance, they just enjoy the company of men. Well, Eldon stands ready to serve. He plunges into the social scene wherever he finds it.
One recent afternoon I played the piano where Eldon lives. He approached my informal audience of about a dozen women, and gave one of them a playful twirl to the beat of the music. He must have dared to add a peck on her cheek when their impromptu dance ended, because I heard the familiar voice of one plainspoken woman who doesn’t miss a thing: “Hey, if you’re handing out kisses today, I’ll take one.” Eldon obliged.
