In the 1990s, I tried my hand at writing for children—with modest success. I had games and puzzles published in Highlights magazine (yes, the one in the dentist’s office). My non-fiction articles, including a historical piece about Clara Schumann’s piano debut, appeared in other children’s magazines like Cricket and Hopscotch.
Being a librarian, I have written countless book reviews, compiled my share of annotated bibliographies, and done quite a lot of indexing.
I’ve even composed a couple of poems. This one received an Honorable Mention in the 2014 SLO Nightwriters’ annual Golden Quill contest. It’s based on the blog post “Why Must You Be Mean to Me?”
And I recently finished two children’s books, one about Clara Schumann, the other about a child learning to interact with a grandparent who is developing dementia. Now on to the work of finding a publisher.
