My other writing

As a child, I wrote a lot of poems that I put on homemade holiday and birthday cards for my family. My first published poem appeared in my school newsletter when I was in 4th grade: “Winter Is My Favorite Time of Year” (it definitely isn’t). Of course, it’s a terrible poem.

Many years later, this one received an Honorable Mention in the 2014 SLO Nightwriters’ annual Golden Quill contest. It’s based on the blog post “Why Must You Be Mean to Me?

I also love writing “flash” nonfiction, tiny true stories that pack a punch with only a few hundred words, like this memoir piece published in The Sun.
